  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We are coming to the end of yet another eventful year for NRS, a year filled with many interesting projects and outstanding technical development, particularly in the equipment for in-situ as well as precast bridge construction. Our projects take us to 12 different countries this year, and more significantly our equipment is being used in several outstanding bridge projects worldwide such as the 2nd Incheon Bridge (Korea), the Sutong Bridge (China) and the Colorado River Bridge (USA). The year also saw us welcoming many new representative agents/partners as well as colleagues from various parts of the world.

The major work we have for 2005 include:

- 2nd Incheon Bridge, Korea - Launcher and wheel trolley for precast full span method for the largest bridge proejct in Korea (heaviest span to be erected using this method!)
- Colorado River Bridge, USA - Traveler for a huge arch bridge over Hoover Dam
- Thu Thiem Bridge - MSS for span by span construction
- Sutong Bridge, China - Self-launching MSS being successfully introduced for a major project
- Guangzhou LRT, China - NRS launching gantries again used to construct precast segmental viaduct for Light Rail Transit System
- Jalan Duta Interchange, Malaysia - Segment Lifter for precast segmental bridge
- Southern Transport Development Project, Sri Lanka - Launching gantry and beam mover for several bridges
- various other engineering support and temporary works design

For more details on the projects, please feel free to contact us directly.

Best wishes and a blessed New Year to our clients, associates, partners and colleagues all over the world! May 2006 be even better for all of us.

  Sifeng Bridge in Beijing, China

Congratulation to NRS China!

NRS launching gantry shall be used for the construction of the expansion of Sifeng Bridge in Beijing. By using the launching gantry, the erection of precast segments will be carried out above the piers to avoid any disruption to the traffic flow below. Speed in precast segmental erection is another key factor for contractors to consider this method in their bridge construction.

Overhead Cast in Situ Movable Scaffolding System

Winner Stubeco Implementation prize 2002
Overhead Cast in Situ Movable Scaffolding System
Bouwcombinatie Utrecht V.O.F.

The jury was unanimous in its appreciation of this submission and in its decision to award the Stubeco Implementation Prize for 2002 to this application of the Movable Scaffolding System (MSS).

While application of this movable and self-supporting shuttering system is in itself not a new technical development and is already being applied in many versions the jury was highly appreciative of the highly advanced development and technical tours de force that have been applied in this shuttering system. The extensive scale and the many techniques that have been included and applications that have been realized in the design of this flatbed qualify as being highly innovative, such as:

• The Enerpac high-pressure hydraulic installation for the operation of the lifting installation and conveyance device, the control of floor cases and edge cases and the facility for elevated construction above track;

• The trough flatbed and the movable shuttering system are a perfect example of the integration of design and implementation and of industrial thinking over construction, in which the railway viaduct and the shuttering system together with suppliers has resulted in an almost industrial production line process.

The MSS, manufactured by NRS AS (Norway), was especially modified to fit the already designed bridges, including the special criteria's for crossing live train traffic, various span lengths combined with different horizontal radii and the various numbers of special pier columns.

In addition, the entire MSS was adapted to be side-launched from one bridge to the neighboring bridge without dismantling, which made to system to work “almost like an industrial production line process”, as stated by the jury.

The extremely advanced development of this movable and self-supporting shuttering system is in that respect indeed a step forward for the implementation of civil engineering projects.

The jury compliments the designers of this flatbed and congratulates Bouwcombinatie for this enterprising and large-scale application. The submission meets in every respect the criteria that have been set by Stubeco for awarding the “Stubeco Implementation Prize 2002”.

The Stubeco Implementation Prize is an initiative of Stubeco; a study association affiliated with the Concrete Association. Stubeco promotes technology in the area of shuttering, reinforcement and construction of concrete structures. Stubeco intends with the Implementation Prize to bring innovative methods and techniques for implementation to the attention of a broader public.

The prize is for those who apply a special resource or innovative method to the shuttering, reinforcement and construction of concrete structures. The prize is awarded to the inventor or user of the method. This means that contractors, constructors, suppliers, advisers and principals can qualify. Stubeco awards the Implementation Prize once every two years during Concrete Day.
